Dive into the history of the charming village of Baie-Johan-Beetz, formerly known as Piastrebaie, during the time when salmon trading posts and fur trade shaped local life. The village is named after Johan Beetz, a Belgian aristocrat who arrived in the early 20th century. Out of love for a northern coastal woman, he became a trapper, merchant, naturalist, and built a manor that locals still call "The Castle." Classified as a cultural heritage site of Quebec, the Johan Beetz House, built in 1899, was renovated in 2023.
Our outfitter, perched facing the sea, manages 20 km² including two salmon rivers: the Petite Watshishou and the Piashti. Trout, ouananiche, and brook trout abound here.
